Cardboard Star at Christmas

The glass ornament broke last year, so the children cut a star from the delivery box. Gold paint misses one corner. Tape shows from the back. It leans above the tree with no talent for perfection. At Christmas dinner, everyone points to it first. What the house remembers is not what cost the most, but what needed making together.
