Morning After the Final
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
By morning, the flags are damp.
Someone sweeps confetti from the station.
The winning shirt is still worn proudly.
The losing one waits beneath a coat.
Children replay the decisive goal
between two school bags.
Adults replay the missed chance
with coffee and quieter voices.
The World Cup has ended.
For one more day,
the whole city moves
as if extra time remains.
