The Aisle Seat

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

She asks for the aisle because grief has made every room feel difficult to leave. The usher does not ask why. He walks slowly, chooses a place near the door, and points out the restroom without lowering his voice. During the final hymn she remains seated. No one corrects her. Service can look like knowing which questions not to ask.
