The Shadow at Noon

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

At noon I stand beside the old wall and find my shadow folded almost entirely beneath me. All year it has walked ahead, followed behind, leaned east across the pavement. Today it becomes a small dark fact at my feet. The sun reaches its limit. Even height has a turning point. I place one hand on warm stone and feel the year begin to tilt.
