Two Small Fires

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

One fire burns behind the stove glass, measured in logs and waiting. The other begins in the argument: a sentence fed too quickly, an old grievance given air. I close the iron door on one. For the other, I lower my voice, move the sharp word away, and ask what we are actually protecting. Both flames change when no one keeps adding fuel.
