What We Did Not Become
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The reunion badges show our names,
not the futures we predicted.
The future doctor teaches music.
The shy student runs meetings.
The fastest runner uses a cane
and still arrives first with the joke.
We stop comparing after dessert.
Someone moves the chairs into a circle.
For an hour,
we are not accomplishments.
We are witnesses
who remember one another unfinished.
