Last Circle Time
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The children sit cross-legged
for their last kindergarten circle.
They name favorite books,
missing teeth,
and what they will be next year:
scientist,
dancer,
person who drives the bus.
Their teacher closes the songbook.
Tomorrow the rug will be empty.
Today each small voice graduates
without needing a larger word.
