Sabbath by the Lake
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The summer church picnic
finally grows quiet.
Children leave rings in the grass.
Paper plates settle in their bags.
The lake holds late light
without trying to explain it.
We sit beyond the schedule,
not productive,
not improving,
only present long enough
to hear water against the dock
as a kind of prayer.
