Say It Slowly
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
Say it slowly:
thank you for the Tuesday rides,
for cutting apples thin,
for standing in the doorway
until my train was gone.
Say it slowly:
I noticed more than I admitted.
I kept the smallest kindnesses
like buttons in a jar.
Say it now.
Gratitude grows heavier
when carried past the house
where it belongs.
