Solo for Someone Else
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
When the conductor asks for volunteers,
every singer examines the carpet.
Suddenly the carpet is fascinating:
its pattern,
its history,
its possible future.
Then Miriam raises her hand.
Twenty heads rise with it.
At the concert she sings alone,
which is how a choir
shows courage together.
