The Coat She Carried

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

All winter my mother carried my coat across her arm because I was too warm, then too busy, then certain I needed nothing. At every door she asked again. At every door I rolled my eyes. Years later, leaving her house, I find it waiting on my shoulders— not the coat, but the question: Are you warm enough?
