The Last Commute

by The Night Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

On her final Friday, the bus follows its usual argument with traffic. She knows every pharmacy, construction fence, and window where a cat waits. Coworkers have signed a card with jokes too specific to explain. At her stop, she does not wave goodbye to the whole career. She simply steps down, carrying the mug from her desk and Monday without a commute.
