Retirement Morning

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The alarm rings from habit. He reaches, then remembers. No train. No badge. No lunch packed before sunrise. At eight he is still in slippers, uneasy with the unclaimed hours. He waters one plant, walks around the block, and writes three names to call. Retirement begins not as freedom, but as a schedule he must learn to author.
