The Mentor in the Third Pew

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

He never called himself a mentor. He simply saved a seat, asked about the interview, and remembered when the answer was supposed to arrive. When the young man failed, he did not quote victory. He brought sandwiches, listened past the brave version, and helped rewrite the application. On Men's Day, applause finds him uncomfortable in the third pew. The life he steadied stands beside him.
