The Shoes by the Door

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

Your shoes remain by the door, one lace under the other heel. For weeks I step around them as if you have gone upstairs, as if the house is holding one ordinary mistake. Today I lift them. Dust marks their place in two clean outlines. I do not know where to put them. Grief is full of objects that have finished their work before love has finished looking.
