The Story Only You Knew
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
There was a version of me
only you remembered:
the red coat, the cheap apartment,
the night we walked home singing
because the buses stopped.
Now when I tell that story,
no one corrects the corner,
the weather, which song came first.
A friend dies twice:
once from the world,
once from the private country
only two people could name.
