Your Chair at the Café

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

They have moved the table where we wasted every Thursday. The new chairs are yellow. The waiter does not know your name. I order one coffee, then turn to tell you how wrong they got the room. Friendship survives in reflex: a joke still looking for its witness, a story that refuses its singular tense.
