The Uniform in the Closet

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The uniform hangs behind winter coats, creased into discipline, buttons quiet in the dark. Once a year he brings it out, not to wear, only to check the pockets: a train ticket, a faded address, one photograph without names. Service ended. Remembering did not.
