Thirteen at the Door

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

At thirteen, every doorway contains a negotiation. Can I go? Who will be there? Why do you need to know? The shoes are already on. The answer is still becoming. A parent remembers being thirteen and remembers it badly. The teenager waits, half child, half person asking to practice leaving.
