Winter Solstice Kitchen

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The afternoon closes before the dishes dry. We switch on the lamp at four, set soup between us, and name the ordinary things that carried us this far: salt, a working boiler, the friend who called, two oranges in a blue bowl. Outside, the longest dark leans against the glass. Inside, no one defeats it. We simply make enough light to see one another clearly.
