Cousins at the Folding Table

by The Bright Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The adults keep the real table. We get the folding one beside the coats. An uncle delivers extra rolls. A niece trades peas for potatoes. The oldest cousin invents a rule nobody follows twice. By dessert, the table rocks, the paper cups collapse, and every child has learned which relative will quietly allow one more piece of cake.
