Dictionary at Midnight

by The Night Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

At midnight I open the dictionary looking for another word for tired. It offers weary, spent, exhausted, each one wearing a different coat. I try them aloud. None knows the exact weight of this Tuesday. A synonym can stand nearby, but it cannot become its neighbor. Language helps by admitting that almost the same is not the same.
