Her Birthday in the Garden

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

On your birthday, I plant nothing new. I weed around the lavender you chose because bees made you less afraid of summer. A neighbor asks what it is for. I say your name. That is enough explanation. By noon, three bees arrive, busy with their own living. I sit beside the purple stems and let the day be both: yours, and still moving.
