Candles for an Adult Daughter
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
You light your own candles now,
choose the restaurant,
bring wine to our table.
Still, when everyone begins to sing,
I see the serious child
who studied flame
before making any wish.
Blow them out.
Keep what you wished for.
Tell me what you build.
