Her Hands at Rest
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
I knew her hands in motion:
buttoning, chopping,
braiding, mending,
waving from the drive.
Today they rest around a cup.
Sunlight gathers in the lines
I once mistook for age.
They are a map of giving,
yes—but also hers,
allowed at last to hold
nothing for anyone.
