Not a Daughter Borrowed
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
You are not a daughter borrowed
from some other family,
not an extra place setting,
not a name attached by law.
You arrived with your own weather,
your fierce work,
your way of asking better questions.
What grew between us
did not replace another bond.
It made a new one,
with its own roots and room.
