After the Wedding Flowers
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
After the wedding flowers browned,
a real relationship began:
texts about train times,
soup when I was ill,
the careful question
that left me room to answer.
Love joined the family loudly.
You joined it day by day,
not as a role,
but as yourself—
which is the gift
we did not know to ask for.
