One Chair with Flowers

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

At the end of the wedding aisle, one chair holds flowers instead of a body. We do not ask the chair to become a person. We do not turn the vows into another funeral. Before the music begins, the couple touches the ribbon, says the missing name together, and lets joy enter without requiring grief to leave.
