Red in the Field
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
After the guns, the field
made no speech.
It lifted poppies
through the damaged ground,
red as a warning,
red as a wound learning weather.
We pin the paper flower
close to the heart,
not because beauty repairs war,
but because forgetting
is another kind of loss.
