Teach Me the River

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

He never said be patient. He handed me the line, pointed where the current slowed, and let the empty hour begin. Dragonflies stitched blue light. Mud cooled between my toes. We caught nothing. Driving home, he asked what I had learned. I said the fish were clever. He smiled and did not correct me.
