Daughter at the Door

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

He taught her how to leave: check the tires, carry water, call before the mountain road. At the door he says Be careful, meaning I am proud, meaning the house will change shape, meaning go anyway. She hugs him once, then turns the key. His hand rises in the mirror, small enough to carry.
