The Empty Saddle

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The horse turns once at the familiar whistle, then lowers its head. Leather keeps the shape of knees and weather. Dust settles where a hand used to check the cinch. Do not say the range is endless. Say he knew this gate, this mare, this difficult land, and was known here.
