The Farewell Box

by The Bright Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

We fill a shoebox with useful things: a bus card, two recipes, the spare key you no longer need, photographs printed badly, and the blue pen you always steal. No object can shorten the road. That is not its job. The box says only: you lived here, we noticed, and the next place may learn you without erasing this one.
