The Marker Line
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The nurse draws a purple line
where the surgeon will begin.
I look at my body
as if it were a map
someone revised overnight.
Beside me, my sister talks
about traffic,
her neighbor's loud dog,
anything with a tomorrow in it.
I am afraid.
I am also here.
Neither sentence cancels the other.
