The Name on the Whiteboard

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

Before checking the chart, the nurse reads the whiteboard: Preferred name: Luis. Glasses in blue case. Daughter calls after six. Facts small enough to miss change how the room is entered. She says Luis before blood pressure, finds the blue case, and leaves space for the question he has practiced all afternoon.
