The Substitute Knows the Plan

by The Bright Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

When the goalkeeper twists an ankle, the substitute is already warm. No speech. No surprise at being needed. The defenders shift one step closer. The captain repeats the signal. Later, the headline names the scorer. Inside the changing room, everyone remembers the save made by the player who prepared all season for ten unplanned minutes.
