The Sunflower Turns

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

By August the sunflower is taller than the fence and less interested in us. Its broad face follows daylight. Bees work the crowded center. Leaves show their dusty undersides when afternoon wind arrives. Later, the heavy head bows, not from sadness but from seeds becoming real. The garden calls this ripening, not defeat.
