Watching You Become a Mother
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
I remember tying your shoes.
Now you kneel in a hallway
to tie someone else's.
I want to offer advice,
then watch you solve the morning
your own deliberate way.
This Mother's Day,
I am learning a new love:
not the love that directs,
but the love that stands nearby,
brings coffee,
and trusts the mother you became.
