What I Saw You Carry

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

On your first Mother's Day, I could list the flowers, the cards, the photograph we almost took. But I want to name the weight: the appointments remembered, the sleep divided, the questions you carried while I was still learning to see them. Today I am not thanking you for doing everything. I am promising to notice, and to carry my half.
