After the Parent-Teacher Meeting

by The Night Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

In the parking lot I kneel beside your backpack and ask what happened before I tell you what should happen next. The note used words like disruptive. You say you finished early, helped the boy beside you, forgot to lower your voice. Both things can be true: you must learn the room, and the room must learn not to fear your brightness. We drive home with a plan, not a verdict.
