Field After Harvest

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

He knew each field by the way rain stood in it, which gate sagged, where the tractor caught at dusk. Now stubble holds the frost. His boots wait by the door. We scatter nothing grand— only seed from his own hand, returned to the ground that carried his whole name.
