Grocery List for Two
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
Your handwriting leans across mine:
oats,
lemons,
the soap that does not dry your hands.
I add coffee.
You cross it out;
there is already some at home.
Nothing here belongs in a love song,
yet I keep the list in my pocket
all afternoon.
Two lives have begun
to share their ordinary nouns,
and even errands
now use the word we.
