After the Last Appointment

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The receptionist says, That's everything for today, and hands back my card. Outside, buses keep arriving. A man argues with a parking meter. Someone drops an orange and runs after it laughing. I expected a trumpet, or certainty, or a clean new chapter. Instead, I buy bread, go home, and leave room in the calendar for whatever living asks.
