Her Name in My Phone
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
My granddaughter's name
appears with three bright hearts,
a code she chose at twelve.
Now she calls from an apartment
where I have never stood,
tells me about work,
a plant that will not live,
someone she might love.
I listen as the child in the photograph
becomes the woman on the line
without leaving either place.
