Her Voicemail Says Hello
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
My mother's voicemail says hello
with no knowledge of the future.
She is probably in the garden,
it says. Leave your name.
As if she could forget it.
As if I could leave anything
and have it reach her.
I listen once a year.
Her voice opens the door.
The recording ends.
The door does not.
