The Last Gate

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The gate he built still drags one corner through the dust. Lift, then push, he taught every visitor. We could replace it. Instead we learn the motion: the weight, the pause, the shoulder against wood. Memory is sometimes an inconvenience we choose to keep.
