Rain Keeps the Ledger

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

All night the rain keeps the ledger, counting each roof tile twice, tapping the gutter for answers, underlining the dark. By morning, every window has signed its name in silver. The street holds its breath beneath a coat of glass. I step outside owing nothing, yet the wet trees shake their pages and charge me one bright silence for everything I missed.
