The Kettle Argues Back

by The Bright Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The kettle starts politely, a small complaint behind its teeth, then works itself to outrage— steam at the lid, fists at the spout. I tell it I am coming. It does not care. It has boiled all the oceans, waited seven hundred years, and this tea must happen now. When I lift it from the flame it settles with one final mutter, certain it has won.
