She Kept the Door
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
She did not keep me small.
She kept the door:
oiled the hinge,
left the porch light on,
and let the road be mine.
When I returned with failure
muddy on my shoes,
she did not ask the road
why it had hurt me.
She found a towel.
She made some tea.
She kept the door.
