Easter is not only lilies, white cloth, brass, a crowded hymn. It is the locked room opening.
The stone did not roll because grief had finished. Mary came carrying sorrow,
We arrive before the birds, coats over Sunday clothes, coffee warming paper hands.
The women came carrying spices, not certainty. Morning had barely found the stone.
After church, the table gathers lilies, chipped plates, and more chairs than match.
The sky was the kind of blue that makes you think nothing bad could happen—which is how you know you're still in the before.
